Bill has worked as a reporter, civil servant, and professor at Temple University and Monmouth University, never forgetting his first jobs as a lifeguard, groundskeeper, and dishwasher. Before Decapitation Day, he edited four quotation books and wrote three best-book guides, using the power of writing to educate readers and illuminate social justice issues. His literary guides are in the collections of countless libraries, including Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge.

Dr. Martin grew up in Moscow, Pennsylvania, graduating from North Pocono School District, Bloomsburg University (BA in Psychology), Shippensburg University (MS in Journalism), and Temple University (Ed.D.) He met his wife Marianne at Bloomsburg U, where they married and settled in the Harrisburg, PA, area. They've been married for 50 years, with two children and two grandchildren.

When he is not writing or selling books, Bill travels. He and Marianne have visited every continent except Antarctica, always keeping his favorite quotation in mind:

“Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us, or we find it not.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson
